WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOUR PLANS TAKE OFF!
About PlanB
PlanB is an Indonesian advisory and implementation company specialised in sustainable finance, traceable supply chains, and smallholder integration. We work at the intersection of farmers, financial institutions, companies, and government to turn sustainability commitments into bankable, traceable, and scalable systems on the ground.
From our base in Indonesia, our teams operate across Sumatra and Kalimantan, supporting thousands of smallholders and a growing network of cooperatives, banks, buyers, companies, and public institutions in their transition toward deforestation-free, certified, and finance-ready production systems.
Our Core Focus: Access to Finance
Access to finance is the central lever in our work. PlanB designs and implements systems that enable smallholders and cooperatives to become bankable, while allowing banks and investors to deploy capital into sustainable landscapes with reduced risk.
We integrate farm-level data and geolocation, certification and ESG compliance, credit assessment and cooperative strengthening, traceability and legality, and risk-sharing and blended finance structures. This allows capital to flow responsibly into working capital, replanting, and long-term productivity improvements, while meeting rising global requirements on deforestation, traceability, and transparency.
From Field to Finance: How We Work
Across our projects, PlanB supports the full journey from risk to resilience. This includes social-environmental risk assessment using tools such as High Conservation Value, village planning and land-use governance, training on Good Agricultural Practices aligned with RSPO, ISPO and other standards, certification readiness and compliance, mapping, traceability and land tenure support, credit screening and loan structuring, replanting support, and market and off-taker integration.
This integrated approach ensures that sustainability improvements at farm level translate directly into financial access, stable markets, and long-term land security.
Institutional Experience and System-Level Work
PlanB combines hands-on field implementation with system-level financial and policy work. We are a key implementation partner in the Abler Nordic Climate Smart Fund in Indonesia, where we support smallholders with certification, traceability, land tenure, and direct access to finance for sustainable production and replanting. This work demonstrates how long-term private capital can be safely deployed into smallholder landscapes when finance is linked to verified data, certification, and no-deforestation commitments.
In parallel, PlanB is actively supporting national-level financial system development through multiple assignments with IDH – The Sustainable Trade Initiative. This includes work on operationalising Indonesia’s Sustainable Finance Taxonomy (TKBI–AFOLU) for deforestation-free agriculture and designing risk-sharing and pipeline mechanisms to unlock bank financing for the “missing middle” in sustainable land use. Through this combination of field implementation and financial system design, PlanB operates across farm, cooperative, bank, company, and policy levels.
PlanB is also leading the implementation of an RVO-funded project together with Cuperus and Fosil Kayu to develop socially and environmentally responsible petrified wood supply chains from Indonesia. This work focuses on due diligence, village-level governance, occupational health and safety, gender inclusion, and traceability in a highly informal extractive value chain.
In Jambi, PlanB carried out a large-scale peat restoration feasibility and due diligence study for PT Hijau Alam Sejati, assessing the technical, social, and economic viability of community-based peat rewetting and carbon finance across a six-village landscape. This included carbon modelling, hydrological analysis, livelihood assessments, and development of restoration and benefit-sharing models.
PlanB has also supported the United States Department of Agriculture–funded Indonesia Spice Trade Alliance by conducting baseline studies, importance-performance analysis, and midterm evaluation work across multiple provinces. This work assessed the effectiveness of farmer training, certification, nursery systems, and market integration for vanilla, pepper, and cinnamon value chains, strengthening the evidence base for climate-resilient agricultural investment.
What Makes PlanB Different?
PlanB is not a traditional NGO and not a pure consultancy. We are a practical systems builder that connects farmers and cooperatives, financial institutions and investors, companies and off-takers, and government and national sustainability systems. By combining field capacity, finance logic, certification systems, traceability infrastructure, and regulatory alignment, we help partners move beyond pilots and toward scalable, financeable sustainability.
Our Mission
PlanB’s mission is to make sustainable land use financially viable. We believe deforestation-free, traceable, and climate-smart production will only scale when it is bankable for farmers, de-risked for financial institutions, reliable for companies, and aligned with national and international regulation.
